Adapting to a changing world around us is definitely a
challenge. My communication life used to be rather complicated in that I would
listen out for the emission of tones going off from a scanner at all hours of
the day, for I am a volunteer fire-fighter as well as a paramedic. I would
respond to reports of vehicle accidents with entrapment, ambulance calls,
first-responder requests, fires, search and rescue dispatches, and all sorts of
calls that were dispatched over the "fire frequency" of our volunteer
service's radio waves. I am still dedicated, but now I have diverted my
attention away from the airways most of the time. For now, I must attend to
studying, or else I will not be able to pass these classes and would therefore
have wasted these years I have devoted towards attaining a degree in nursing.
It seems selfish, but in order to advance my medical knowledge, I must focus on
obtaining my RN degree before I can return to listening to the tones and commit
the time towards rescue and recovery.
